Gavin Glakas

Originally from Bethesda, Maryland, Gavin John Glakas learned to walk and draw simultaneously. He studied under Walt Bartman at Walt Whitman High School and continued training at Washington University in St. Louis, studying Fine Art with a concentration in Painting. In addition, he studied at the Slade School of Fine Arts in London, an intensive figure-painting program.

While living in Greece, he worked as an illustrator. A restaurant in Plaka became his preferred venue for dinner, and as he became friendly with the waiters, they began presenting him with their empty wine bottles. Glakas embarked on his series of wine bottle still life paintings.

Glakas is known for his still lifes, yet also CREATEs figurative and landscape paintings. Currently, Glakas lives in Washington, D.C. and his paintings have been featured in numerous exhibitions throughout the country. He continues his series of wine bottle paintings.
